I'll be honest, Australia was one country I was avoiding like the plague. I would see beautiful photos of Australia all over Instagram, but It was a place that scared me to death because of all of the stereotypes I've heard about it. I've been told things like It's way too expensive, all the animals are dangerous and will try to kill you, they have huge bugs, and It's crazy hot. Quite frankly with a track record like this, it doesn't sound too appealing, but after doing some research and talking to people who have been to Australia, I had a completely different view of the place.
I booked my ticket from Bali and decided to go on a road trip with my friend Nicola. For my trip, I was lucky enough to partner with a fantastic company called Travellers Autobarn who lent me a comfy campervan for my two-week road trip. (They are a great choice if you are looking to rent a campervan because they offer a variety of styles with prices starting as low as $35 a day.) Once we picked up our van, we headed along the east coast with a plan to go from Sydney to Brisbane stopping along the way.
During the two weeks on the trip, I quickly found out that Australia has so much to offer and it became my favorite place I've been so far. The landscape was so diverse and beautiful. They had hundreds of turquoise beaches with golden sand stretching for miles. They had a handful of national parks and scenic roadways to enjoy nature in the rainforest, charming towns filled with surfers, cities with massive skyscrapers, enormous waterfalls, and a lot of wildlife like koalas, wallabies, and the occasional scary snake.
Being in Australia felt right. It was such a relaxing, peaceful and fun place to visit. Towards the end of the trip, we were quite sad to leave. Sleeping in our cozy van became normal to us. We met so many kind people along the way, saw some unforgettable locations, went glamping for the first time (at The village glamping) and made so many new memories. I can't wait to go back again soon! I’ll be sure to go into further detail about our trip in my New South Wales Travel Guide, but for now, I hope you enjoy our little collections of photos from our mini adventure.
